Universe-25 «Вселенная-25»

В рамках проекта «Вселенная-25» (Universe-25) был устроен искусственный рай — стенд, в котором поддерживались постоянные комфортные температура, освещение, влажность и чистота, а еда и питье подавались в изобилии. Установку заселили мышами, предоставив четырем мышиным семьям свободно вырасти в популяцию числом до нескольких тысяч особей. Поводов для борьбы за существование в «искусственном раю» не было, и закономерности развития популяции диктовались исключительно особенностями поведения данного вида животных.
Результат оказался шокирующим. Первоначальный бурный рост мышиной колонии сменился застоем. С какого-то момента маленькие участники эксперимента словно бы пресытились и стали поступать против естественных правил, свойственных виду в природных условиях. Появилась категория отверженных, становившихся объектом агрессии, в числе самцов выделились «красивые», занятые преимущественно собой. У самок вдруг снизилась репродуктивность, среди них стали заметны самки-одиночки и самки-отшельницы. Животные всё больше и больше втягивались в круг «отклоняющегося» поведения и апатии. При одновременном изобилии пищи процветали каннибализм, противоестественная тяга к своему полу. Самки отказывались воспитывать детенышей и убивали их. Участники эксперимента стремительно вымирали, на 1780-й день умер последний обитатель «мышиного рая».
Опыт повторялся многократно. Дж. Кэлхун прикладывал старания к тому, чтобы усовершенствовать стенд, исключив влияние посторонних или случайных факторов. Итог был печален: популяция, несмотря ни на что, вымирала. Цифра «25» в названии проекта — «Вселенная-25» — означает последнюю, двадцать пятую по счету попытку..."

New book about natural hydrogen just appeared in France.
Its title is "Natural hydrogen. Next energy revolution?" (in French Hydrogène
naturel. La prochaine révolution énergétique ?). Authors Alan Prinzhofer and
Eric Deville talk about the discovery of seepages of natural hydrogen,
previously unknown to science, and discuss the possibility of natural hydrogen
to become the next source of energy.
Abstract: This book tells an exceptional discovery, of the production of natural hydrogen by our planet in large quantity. Five years ago, the authors of this book, both geologists, got the message from the Russian team, that this gas escapes from the ground everywhere in Russia. Better, satellite images and field measurements allow them to detect heavy flow on all continents! It is a big surprise because experts have always considered that this gas could not be formed in the crust. The benefits of hydrogen are numerous: its combustion does not release carbon dioxide, its genesis in the basement is ongoing - as oil reserves are depleted - and its operation does not require deep drilling. How to explain such hydrogen flow? How to exploit this gas? The fact of finding it in abundance makes possible an industrial recovery? It is to these questions and many others that this book answers.
